Grad school interview invitations

I tried to post this yesterday, but it seems the email must have been
lost to the ether.

I was invited to interview at Oregon Health and Science University in
Portland and the University of Washington (Neurobiology and Behavior)
in Seattle!

As for the other schools, no news is bad news as they only email if
you are invited. However, they each have their own schedule for
reviewing applications, so other places might not have even seem my
application yet. I'll keep you posted.

As for the book, Robert has been asking after it at all the bookshops we go into, but alas no one has it here yet. Mailing address...yea no dice.

Hi Martha,
Yea - Seattle is at the top of our list. Now I just need to make it through the interview.

Thanks, Maggie. Just so you know, I got a donut last night for 2,000 Kip (.25 cents) and it was stale. Very depressing, but I will keep trying. A German man walked by as we were admiring them and called them Berliners, jelly donuts. It made me think of FDR (?) who called himself a jelly donut. Anyways...hope you and the fam are enjoying yourselves. I was sad to miss the nog fest!

Well, you've touched on one of my favorite bits of history, and it has actually been on my mind lately. Young girl at my Bozeman coffee shop showed up wearing a t-shirt with "Ich bin eine Berliner" across the front. She got it in Berlin and was delighted that someone got it. I of course said "Really? You're a jelly doughnut?" But anyway, JFK went to Berlin when the wall was being built and the Russians were blockading the city to show our support for the Berliners. In his big speech, he wanted to say he was one of them and instead puzzled the crowd by calling himself a jelly doughnut. I can't help but laugh when I imagine people in the crowd turning to each other saying "What? He's a jelly doughnut? What?"
