Sukhothai Old City, Nov 21: Alms offering to 9 monks

The Thai people believe that you will gain merit for your next life by
giving to the monks and are very excited to do this. Lay people put
their offering into the monk's alms pot and then the monk's assistant
(to the left in the photo) almost immediately take it out for someone
else to go. The alms pots are so small they might hold only one or two
offerings, if that, so the bulk of the offerings were placed into
giant rice sacks. They collected about 15 to 20 rice bags of alms.
